FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Jun 05, 2007 – (San Francisco, CA – June 5, 2007) -  Stacey Frost, founder of San Francisco-based Urban Re:Vision (www.urbanrevision.com) has announced the second phase of a unique, five-part international competition to create the National prototype of sustainable urban living. Aptly titled Re:Route, the phase will focus on the need for more effective and environmentally friendly urban transportation. Innovative proposals from throughout the world will be gathered to incorporate into the large-scale project which will turn an entire major-city block into a living example of the benefits of sustainability.

The jury for Re:Route will include leaders in the field of sustainability and is headed by Eric Corey Freed, renowned architect, author and founder of organicArchitect which provides a dynamic alternative to traditional design practice. The registration deadline is August 15, 2007 and the entry deadline is September 1, 2007. Three winners will be announced on September 15th, 2007 with each receiving $2,000 and the opportunity to have their proposal incorporated into the final project.

The initial phase of the competition, titled Re:Volt, was completed on May 5th and focused on the creation of intelligent energies. Proposals from throughout the world were judged by a panel of experts with three winners being chosen based on such criterion as innovation, practicality, efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

The unprecedented competition was the brainchild of Re:Vision founder Stacey Frost who has long recognized the need for a coordination of efforts to be applied on a large scale in an urban environment.

“By asking the simple question ‘What if…’ we are providing an opportunity for the most creative minds in the sustainable energy field to develop and implement innovative solutions to the ever-increasing problems facing our urban centers,” says Frost.

The goal of Re:Route is to challenge designers to re-imagine the way people move through a city and Frost is confident that this second stage of the competition will garner the same type of response as the first. “We were overwhelmed with not only the number but the quality of excellent submissions we received for Re:Volt,” she said. “We are confident we’ll be reviewing truly forward-thinking concepts to help transform the way we approach our urban transportation needs.”

In addition to Re:Volt and Re:Route, future competitions include Re:Store, which will focus on providing green innovations for a healthy economy and  Re:Connect, which will create an urban planning model for people and place.

Upon the completion of the conceptual competitions, one mayor will be awarded the opportunity to turn innovation into action with the revitalization of an entire block in their city. The fifth and final competition, titled Re:Vision will then gather site-specific proposals from around the world with leading architects drawing from the unique system approaches and the invention and adaptations of existing technologies provided by the competitions winners to create their design presentations.

To help choose the most deserving city, Re:Vision is partnering with the internationally recognized ICLEI which provides national leadership on climate protection and sustainable development to over 160 U.S cities and counties as well as The Mayors for Climate Protection which provides leadership to over 400 United States mayors in promoting climate protection in cities throughout the United States.

Digital entries for Re:Route are currently being accepted at www.urbanrevision.com. Seven finalists will be chosen with three winners each receiving $2,000 and the opportunity to have their strategies incorporated into the final project.

Re:Vision founder Stacey Frost and Re:Volt jury head Eric Corey Freed are currently available to speak about the Re:Vision competition and its programs. Additional information can be found at www.urbanrevision.com.
