ATLANTA, Ga. – June 4, 2007 - Colonial Pipeline Co. said on June 3 that it had restarted its gasoline mainline segment from Atlanta to Greensboro, N.C. The line segment was shut down on May 29 due to a leak report.
Delays in resuming operations on the line spurred a temporary gasoline price fly up on June 1 as word of the shutdown spread among traders.
Restart of the line, originally scheduled for June 1, was delayed because the time required to repair the affected pipe span turned out to take longer than expected.
Atlanta-
On May 31, Colonial reported that it was temporarily crossing gasoline over to its No. 2 distillates line for shipment to destinations north of Atlanta. Crossovers are unusual on Colonial because they create large transmix (gasoline mixed with distillates)
Colonial had previously announced that its was prorating gasoline shipments beginning June 3, an indication that shippers hoped to move more than Colonial’s 1.4 million b/d maximum gasoline capacity.
