FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Jun 04, 2007 – If you go down to the Embankment in Bedford on Sunday 22nd July, you are sure of a big surprise!  More than 7,000 women will set off at 11.00am to pound their way round the 5k course in the annual Race For Life, in aid of Cancer Research UK.  Within that sea of faces will be a team from Parripak Foods in Bedfordshire, workmates Beverley Wright, Holly Baker-Dugmore and Sarah Hills

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life began in 1994, with one race in Battersea Park.  680 women came together and raised £36,000 in sponsorship.  Twelve years on, Race for Life has grown to become the UK’s biggest women only fundraising event. Over the years the races have raised over £70 million for Cancer Research UK and welcomed over 1.4 million women.

Holly explained why the girls decided to take part. “This is a truly unique event because everybody who enters has their own special reason for taking part.  This is the first time we have entered and we want to help promote the work carried out by Cancer Research UK.  We are all determined to raise as much money as possible.”

Although a women only event, Race for Life has many male supporters and the girls have the full support of both their male and female workmates at Parripak Foods, who have already pledged donations and have promised to turn up on the day to cheer them on.

Holly added. “We are all looking forward to joining the 7,000 women who will be running, hopping, jogging or just walking and talking their way round the course.  Although this is a race, the most important thing is not how fit or how young you are, it’s just the fact that you are taking part.”
