FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Emerald Group Publishing launches International Journal of Workplace Health Management
UNITED KINGDOM, 30 May 2007 – Emerald Group Publishing Limited is launching a journal covering workplace health management with dedicated coverage of:
Workplace Health Practice and Policy
Occupational Stress
Workplace Culture
Personal Health
Physical Work Environment
Health & Productivity.
The new launch illustrates that as Emerald celebrates its 40th anniversary it continues to trailblaze innovative journals in the business management research field.
The journal is the first to consider workplace health from both the wider public health perspective, and the perspective of the individual organisation. Workplace health and related issues will be discussed in the context of three key guiding principles:
Individual Health
Workplace Culture
Physical Work Issues
Dr. Lydia Makrides, Editor-in-Chief, is the founder and director of Creative Wellness Solutions (CWS), the leading provider of customized workplace health programs in Canada . Her career has focused on research in health promotion, rehabilitation & comprehensive workplace health aimed at creating healthy workplaces and decreasing employer costs.
Dr. Makrides’ current research, through the Atlantic Health & Wellness Institute, Research Affiliate of CWS, includes the Healthy LifeWorks Project, designed to implement and evaluate a Comprehensive Workplace Health program for employees of the Public Service Commission in Nova Scotia , Canada . She was also the Principal Investigator of Project Impact, an innovative private sector research programme that examined the effects of health and wellness programmes in decreasing coronary risk and improving the health of employees of eight companies in Nova Scotia , Canada .
Dr. Makrides says “We now have the hard evidence needed to demonstrate the effectiveness of Workplace Wellness in improving the health of employees and decreasing health related costs. Creating a culture of health, where people are engaged and productive, makes good business sense”, she emphasizes. “The aim of the International Journal of Workplace Health Management is to bridge research in workplace health and its application and bring best practice models to the workplace.”
Rebecca Marsh, Editorial Director from Emerald adds, “Workplace health is a major public health issue, and is also a major issue for employers. Workplace health programs are both viable and effective in helping people decrease their health risks, which in turn results in a positive return on investment for the employer. The benefits of workplace health initiatives can be seen as early as year one of implementation, with benefits increasing further with long term commitment.”
The journal will be launched in 2008 in print and electronic formats, with three issues and 15 papers a year. It is anticipated the journal will publish at least one ‘best practice’ case study from the workplace in every issue.
