Life-long battle with obesity began when physical fitness stopped.
Boston, Massachusetts  29 May, 2007 — Sometimes the road of life leads us to unexpected places.  Priscilla Houliston, who weighed over 400 pounds a year ago, is discovering this in a big way.  Her journey, which is spreading like wild-fire all around the globe, rides into Boston today to address the State House.
Priscilla had became almost immobilized in her own body fat and in May 2006 and decided to do something about it.  First she walked each day for 30 minutes, quickly watching her body discover what was seriously lacking in her lifestyle, exercise.
As a child Priscilla was average sized until she left the public school system after her sixth year to attend a private school, where there was no exercise program whatsoever.  Over the next three years, Priscilla gained almost 80 pounds.  When she returned to public school for grade nine, she was so embarrassed by her weight that she would rather get an "F" then remember her gym uniform. Her life-long adult battle of the bulge began.
The  weight came and went over the next three decades, climbing to a high peak of over 400 pounds.  Houliston had tried every diet, but was always too tired for exercise.  "Carrying around a spare 250 pounds tends to wear a person out." says Houliston.
A moment of truth finally came into her life when she saw her 72-year-old mother in the hospital after a severe stroke.  Priscilla's mom had lost her ability to walk, talk and even feed herself.  It finally dawned on Houliston that if she didn't take care of her own health, someone else would have to.
Once the exercise had started, just a simple walk, 30 minutes a day, "I felt like I could walk to the moon!" Houliston beams.  Wanting to share this feeling with the entire world, fit or fat, Houliston planned a two-year journey that would see her walk and bicycle around America.
Receiving an invitation from Maria Melchionda, the Executive Director of the Massachusetts Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, to come along for a Physical Education Bill Hearing at the State House in Boston, Massachusetts, seemed like something that was just meant to happen.
Starting her two-year adventure in Key West on January 1, 2007 at 343.5 pounds, Priscilla and her husband Morton had pedaled and walked over 2,600 miles.  They were in Plymouth, Massachusetts when Maria Melchionda contacted them through their website, www.LittleChanges.com, to come and help support the bill.  The Houliston couple, who have shed over 160 pounds in the last year, are only too happy to help.
With over a million people daily tuning in to the website to see where they are, it's no surprise that Maria Melchionda had heard about this couple.  "I'm living proof of what happens when a person doesn't exercise." Priscilla states, but then adds, "I'm also now going to the other end of the scale, seeing the hands of time reverse, as my body remembers and thrives on the unlimited energy of childhood."  Exercise really is the magic pill that millions worldwide are searching for.
