Australian Working Visa: Application made easy due to temporary shortages of some skilled workers

Australia as a whole has an unemployment rate of 4.4 per cent, but booming Western Australia has just 2.7 per cent, which has resulted in the temporary shortages of some skilled workers in the meat industry.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)May 29, 2007 – Brits in the meat industry hoping to migrate to Australia could find the answer in Western Australia, as the government is committing more funds to attracting skilled migrants.

Skilled meatworkers are to be granted temporary entry into Western Australia, following a new three-year labour agreement finalised by Kevin Andrews, Minister for Australia Immigration and Citizenship, and Margaret Quirk, West Australian Minister for Small Business.

Australia as a whole has an unemployment rate of 4.4 per cent, but booming Western Australia has just 2.7 per cent, which has resulted in the temporary shortages of some skilled workers in the meat industry.

The agreement means that employers must commit to training Australian workers too, which will help guarantee a future for the industry; and provides for strict skills assessment requirements and a minimum salary of A$41,850 (£17,500) – the standard minimum salary level – or the relevant industrial instrument, whichever is higher.

Authorities are hoping that Western Australian meat companies will be provided with a temporary solution to address the shortage of skilled workers, while keeping the jobs of Australian workers safe.

The government has committed an extra A$85.3 million over four years to the temporary skilled migration programme, to help eradicate misuse and breaches of the system.
