As President of American Artists Records, Las Vegas Disc Jockey John Dote' launched "What Have You Done For Me Lately" by Janet Jackson on A&M Records which charted at number 2 in San Francisco in 1986. This single set the stage for what was to become one of the biggest albums of the year, "Control" which eventually went platinum. "Nasty" also soared to the top of the Billboard charts and was followed by sold out concerts and performances from the icon on her rise to stardom. Janet was and still is pure talent. There was no American Idol in those days. But Jackson became one.

During that same year, the Las Vegas Disc Jockey produced the themes from "Dynasty" and "Dallas" which were considered the biggest hit television shows throughout the globe. He was also involved with the making of the theme from Jaws 2 on MCA Records with Joe Saraceno. His recording studio in San Carlos, California was just a mile from the now torn down famous Circle Star Theatre which sold out concerts to the likes of Liberace, The O'Jay's and Ike and Tina Turner.

During a performance by Jermaine Jackson at the Gavin Convention in San Francisco, Dote' personally met with Janet Jackson's manager Lyle Baker and her father Joe Jackson to discuss promoting her record. That same evening, John Dote' and Janet Jackson were posing for the media on a San Francisco island and Dote' was off and running with "What Have You Done For Me Lately". Jackson's first two albums did not have much success. But this album would prove to be the one that would send Jackson's career into orbit.

Dote' brought the album to Olen Harrison of Advance Music in San Francisco who had a one stop shop and distribution. From there, the single was at number 2 with a bullet on the charts. Harrison eventually died from a heart attack when the 1989 earthquake downed his shop.

Another dissappointment for Dote' was he was approached that same year by Elmo and Patsy and turned down there now classic hit "Grandma Got Ran Over By A Reindeer" which is the number 1 Christmas song.
