May 24, 2007 – Western Fiction Author W.R. Benton met with Mississippi Senator Terry Burton on May 22, 2007, at the state capital building.
W.R. Benton presented the senator with a copy of "Silently Beats the Drum", book 1 of the Drum Series. Three other books in the series are to be released in the near future. As the senator accepted the book. he said, "I have heard a lot about this book (from the cover artist, Melanie D. Calvert), and I look forward to reading it.”
W.R. Benton is the author of the Drum Series, War Paint, I Rode with Jesse James, Ty Fisher, the award winning Simple Survival, and more. His work has been endorsed by such notable authors as Matt Braun, Stephen Lodge, Don Bendell and many others. Mr. Benton currently lives in the Missouri Ozark Mountains.
Mister Benton and cover artist Melanie Calvert presented the senator an autographed copy of the book signed by the two of them. Benton, who is in Mississippi to promote the Drum Series stated, "I am very pleased that Senator Burton was willing to take time from his busy schedule to meet with me and overjoyed he was willing to accept a copy of the book. I only plan on being in Mississippi until the first of next month, so being able to meet the senator during my visit made it special for me." The senator asked W.R. Benton to contact him later for a book endorsement.
Since his arrival in Mississippi, Benton has been overwhelmed by the kind and friendly folks in the state, and is considering relocating. As W.R. Benton stated, “I lived all over the world while serving in the military for over twenty-six years, but never have I met the caliber of folks that I have in the hospitality state. It is obvious the motto is well deserved.”
