Washington, D.C. – May 21, 2007 – The Youth Suicide and Depression Task Force of the Fairfax Partnership for Youth (FPY) held its third annual conference on suicide prevention and mental wellness on May 8, 2007. The event, which was appropriately titled Bridging the Gap: Emergent Adulthood, addressed the community’s role in promoting positive mental health to Fairfax County youth as they prepare for the transition into adulthood from high school graduation. The all day event was held at St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church in Annandale, VA.
In a survey conducted by the FPY in 2005, those races other than white are more likely to report a feeling of depression, while Asian and Hispanic youth experience even higher rates of depression, some even reported considering suicide. Recognizing the diversity of Fairfax County, LLE – Language Services, a leading global provider of translation and interpretation services, provided simultaneous Spanish and Korean interpreters.
