English Skateboarder makes final preparations for 4000km Charity skate across Europe

Sam Benson will be skating 4000km across 5 European countries over a 10 week period to raise money and awareness for three select children's charities

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)May 20, 2007 – It is less than six weeks until Sam Benson will begin his 4000km journey across Europe, skating for over 10 weeks through 5 different countries in order to raise money and awareness for three select children’s charities.

The journey will see Sam leaving Barnstaple on the 1st of July from Queen Street, and travelling along the South coast of England to Folkestone in the first week. He will be using the Channel Tunnel to get to Calais, before skating to Paris where he will be joined by Adam Colten. From Paris they will skate to Geneva, Switzerland, before making the journey across the Alps to reach Turin, Italy, and then back over the Alps to Marseille, France. From Marseille, they will skate across the Pyrenees into Barcelona, Spain, before they travel through Valencia and Madrid, where they will make the final leg of their journey to Santander, on the 15th of September.

The charities Sam is skating for are; “Link Community Development”, who work to establish nationwide education in Africa; “The Lowe Syndrome Trust”, which is a family run organisation working to help children worldwide suffering from the incurable Lowe Syndrome; and “Sailability Australia”, who teach disabled children worldwide how to sail off the coast of Australia.

Joining Sam in Paris will be Professional Longboarder Adam Colton, who will be flying in from Los Angeles to skate over 3000km with Sam, and will be organising skating days in several cities along the route.

Supporting Sam on this journey will his friends Tom Fletcher, Chris Morris and Tom Walker, whose tasks will include driving the support car, filming the event, mapping the route and many more. So that the children’s charities will benefit from every penny donated, the BeatsWalkinEurope team have budgeted over £750 each to fund this epic journey.

Sam has had several companies worldwide sponsor him equipment for the trip, ranging from Longboards and shoes, to headwear and sunglasses, allowing him to concentrate on the physical training, where he has been sponsored by GB’s Gymnasium.

In order to continue raising money and awareness for the charities after the event has finished, BeatsWalkinEurope is preparing to create DVD of the journey, and has a ghost writer, Owen Platt, preparing to write and publish to accounts of the BWE team as a book. The profits from these two ventures will be donated in full to the said charities.

BeatsWalkinEurope is an affiliate of Boardfree, whose founder, Dave Cornthwaite inspired Sam by skating across Australia in 2006 for the above charities. The Boardfree initiative also aims to promote sport to youngsters of all ages and encourages a ‘no-limits’ attitude to the lives of people everywhere.
