FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - May 19, 2007 -
On the heels of President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete’s 2006 successful trade mission to the United States, The United Republic of Tanzania is pleased to announce their sponsorship and participation in World Trade Week in New York City, May 21 – 25, 2007.

World Trade Week NYC is a national celebration proclaimed each year by the President of the United States. On May 21, Tanzania will serve as “Coffee Break Sponsor” whereby Tanzanian coffee stakeholders will have an opportunity to showcase a variety of coffee from Tanzania and Forum participants will be served with high quality Tanzanian coffee. Presentations on Trade and Investment opportunities available in Tanzania will also be made during the historic event.

The Board of External Trade and the Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry & Agriculture will be leading a delegation of Tanzanian business people to participate in the week’s activities.

World Trade Week NYC is an intensive week of in-depth discussions about investment opportunities in emerging markets, bi-lateral trade agreements, government policy, international financing, logistics, and branding. Presenters include business leaders and government officials from the U.S. and around the world. Every year, the international trade community in NYC offers events on topics such as:

   * Market snapshots from around the world
   * New and upcoming market developments and legislation
   * Business opportunities in emerging markets
   * Import and export "how-to's"
   * Documentation, financing, insurance & transportation
   * Branding your products overseas
   * Technology solutions
   * Government resources
   * Market research resources -both online and offline
   * International trade success stories

Tanzania is the only African country participating.  Other countries participating are:  China, India, Korea, Mexico, Russia, Singapore and United Kingdom.

According to the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) and the UN trade agency, UNCTAD, Africa offers the highest return on direct foreign investment in the world, far exceeding all other regions -- four times more than in the G-7 countries, twice more than in Asia, and two-thirds more than in Latin America.

Daniel Machemba, TCCIA, Executive Director says “This is a great opportunity for people in the USA and indeed other participating countries to know what Tanzania has to offer. Tanzania Chamber of Commerce Industry and Agriculture (TCCIA) signed an MoU with Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce so that business people from both parties can transact their activities with much ease. TCCIA is ready to link any business from all over the world with Tanzanian companies.”

“World Trade Week is a platform for Tanzania, the most politically stable and investor friendly country in Africa to showcase the abundant business and investment opportunities the country has to offer.  OPIC and Tanzania have had a bi-lateral trade agreement since 1996 and Tanzania is an AGOA beneficiary country” says Mymoena (Mona) Davids, CEO, Azania Holdings Tanzania Limited who will be conducting a presentation on the investment opportunities in Tanzania.
