Dili May 5 2007 – As the final days of the second round presidential election campaign in East Timor draw to a close, The Fretilin government faces the beginning of the end to an era of instability and corruption.
The half-decade rule of a despot regime is disintegrating, with the party resorting to last-ditch efforts to disrepute the Prime Minister and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate José Ramos-Horta.
Preposterous claims announced yesterday by the Fretilin candidate, Francisco Guterres, who has increasingly been declared as ‘Alkatiri’
In 2006, amidst scandal and violent civil outbreak, initiated by the negligence and the incompetence of the Fretilin government regime, the unilateral endorsement for the second constitutional Prime Minister was for Jose Ramos-Horta, for his innate ability to activate swift and immediate stability.
His history, record and ongoing exemplary reputation as a man of diplomacy, vision, determination and sacrifice to his country is well documented throughout the global community and received with blessings from the people of the young nation.
In fact in less than one year in the office of Prime Minister, Ramos-Horta was able to re-ignite dialogue with the Church, The Army, The Police and the people, while standing firm against a hostile Fretilin government. A Government whose most well documented accomplishment in concert with the Fretilin led Parliament, was securing lavish life pension plans for the Members of Parliament and Ministers of Asia’s poorest country, while blatantly ignoring their duty of care to the elderly, infirm, veterans, women and weak of the country.
Through sheer resolve against a hostile government, Ramos-Horta managed to re-initiate dialogue with world leaders, international peacekeepers, and regional neighbors, by galvanizing the international community to invest in the stability and future of East Timor.
One United Nations official was quoted, off the record, as saying “José Ramos-Horta could work anywhere is the world he chooses. He is a much loved and revered diplomat and a man of great honor and thoughtfulness. He was considered for the highest position in the global community, The United Nations Secretary General, and yet his choice is to stand side by side with his people in their ongoing quest for democracy, this is a man of integrity, this is José Ramos-Horta”
Ends.
