This is a call to al Ethiopians to:
1- Enact H. R. 5680, the Ethiopia Freedom, Democracy and Human Rights Act of 2006 in the 109th Congress, Second Session.
2- Call their local political, religious, humanitarian and civic leaders and seek their assistance in mobilizing United States legislative and executive policy makers to apply pressure on President Mugabe of Zimbabwe to immediately extradite ex-president of Ethiopia, Mengistu Haile Mariam.
3- Organize and undertake legislative efforts along the lines of H. R. 5680 to establish a mechanism to identify and extradite members of the Mengistu Haile Mariam regime and the current government residing in the United States who were engaged in gross Human Rights violation and work with other governments to identify and extradite such persons, including Mengistu Haile Mariam.
In the hierarchy of dictators and mass murderers, Mengistu Haile Mariam, the Communist leader of Ethiopia from 1974 to 1991, is often not mentioned.
However, during his 17 years tenure, an estimated 1.5 million Ethiopians has been killed by his brutal, blood-soaked regime. The infamous 1984-85 famine in Ethiopia has happened under his watch, due to his arrogance, ignorance and unwillingness to stop it. Though the world had begged to help the starving, Mengistu insisted on withholding food shipments to rebel areas, which resulted in the death of an estimated 1 million Ethiopians.
After overthrowing the Emperor Haile Selassie and his government, in 1974, Mengistu and his Derg regime started a campaign to terrorize his supposed “enemies” and “anti-revolutionaries.”
Witnesses of this terror spoke of unimaginable scenes of horror. A Swedish observer reported witnessing hundreds of dead children – killed by Mengistu’s secret police – dumped alongside the roads of the capital of Addis Ababa. Their bodies soon attracted packs of ravenous hyenas. Decapitated heads were swept into the gutters.
Under Mengistu, Ethiopia was transformed into a nation that was constantly forced into unending civil and external conflicts that took a heavy toll on its already weakened economy.
The Ethiopian government has, however, tried Mengistu in absentia, and he’s been found guilty of genocide in December of 2006.

Mengistu "The Buthcher" Haile Mariam
Mengistu Haile Mariam:- is a communist politician who was the President of Ethiopia from 1977 to 1991.
Mengistu, dubbed “the Butcher of Ethiopia” has been found guilty of committing Genocide on December of 2006. This is a man who is literally about to get away with the deaths of an estimated 1.5 million Ethiopians.
He is currently living in Zimbabwe, where he has been granted permanent residency by his friend President Mugabe, current President of Zimbabwe. Mr. Mugabe – a renowned dictator himself – has justified the Asylum granted to Mengistu by saying,
“As a comrade of our struggle (against white rule in former Rhodesia), Comrade Mengistu and his government played a key and commendable role during our struggle for independence and no one can dispute that.”
Mengistu is believed to have personally killed dozens of people (including students, scholars and some within his own government).
Most shocking of all, Mengistu is believed to have killed the ageing Emperor of Ethiopia, Haile Selassie, by suffocating him to death with a pillow and having him buried under a lavatory in the royal palace, where he was under house arrest.
The crimes and atrocities committed by this much-forgotten madman continue to haunt Ethiopians to this day.
Therefore, it’s the goal of this Blog to bring about awareness to this issue. We hope to sick out one Ethiopian voice and support at a time, to ultimately bring a closure to this sensitive matter by having him - Mengistu “The Butcher” Haile Mariam - extradited back to Ethiopia and help many Ethiopians see justice being served.
