Bringing Joy to Pregnancy: New Non-Prescription Product Offers Relief From Morning Sickness

ST. LOUIS – MAY 3, 2007 – Everidis Health Sciences today announced general market availability of B-natal, a unique non-prescription vitamin supplement designed to provide sweet, soothing relief from morning sickness. Available as cherry-flavored TheraPops™ (lollipops) or green apple lozenges, B-natal offers expectant mothers a safe, enjoyable alternative to other morning sickness therapies.

Everidis will formally introduce the product to the medical community at the Annual Clinical Meeting of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists Monday, May 7, 2007 in San Diego, CA.

It is estimated that 80% of pregnant women experience nausea and vomiting during early pregnancy. Severe morning sickness, called “hyperemesis gravidarum,” is actually the most common cause for hospitalization during that period. B-natal contains vitamin B6 as pyridoxine hydrochloride, which has been recommended by the leading association of obstetricians and gynecologists as a first-line therapy for the symptoms of morning sickness.  Vitamin B6 has been extensively studied and safely recommended by physicians since 1942.

“Maternity is one of the most beautiful stages of human life,” says Jennifer Cherry, president of Everidis Health Sciences. “B-natal was designed to help women shed the pains of morning sickness and enjoy a happy, healthy pregnancy.”

A mother of two herself, Cherry was inspired to develop B-natal after experiencing severe morning sickness during her own pregnancy.

“Like many women, I was concerned about the effect prescription anti-nausea medications would have on my baby,” says Cherry. “I knew several studies showed that vitamin B6 was helpful for relieving morning sickness, but there were no designated over-the-counter products available on the market.”

Led by Everidis Director of Science Douglas Perry, Ph.D., the Everidis research and development team conducted extensive scientific research and analysis to develop unique B-natal formulations and delivery mechanisms.

“Other ingredients out there claim to be remedies for morning sickness, but we knew that expectant mothers and their doctors would demand scientific evidence as well as safety data before feeling comfortable putting anything into their bodies,” says Dr. Perry. “We found that evidence, and it became the foundation for B-natal.”

The decision to deliver B-natal in a lollipop or lozenge form was driven by pure logic.

“Other morning sickness remedies come in liquid or pill form, which is obviously not going to work for individuals experiencing nausea and vomiting,” says Dr. Perry. “We are offering women a soothing alternative to pills by delivering vitamin B6 in a lollipop or lozenge form. Plus, who doesn’t love candy?”

B-natal has a suggested retail selling price of $15.99 for a box of 28 TheraPops or lozenges. Although it is a non-prescription product, B-natal will be recommended primarily by medical professionals (e.g., OB/GYN, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, etc.).  In most cases, patients will be directed to purchase B-natal at their local pharmacy counter, allowing pharmacists to monitor patient product usage during pregnancy. The product is also available online at www.bnatal.com or by calling 877-776-0101. Women interested in B-natal should contact their OB/GYN or pharmacist, or visit www.bnatal.com.
