The Fossil Materials We Use
The fossil mammoth and mastodon ivory that we use comes from Alaska and Russia.
This prehistoric ancestor of the modern day elephant roamed the world thousands of years ago, so a chunk of fossil mammoth ivory could be anywhere from 10,000 to 40,000 years old. It ranges in colors from a dark chocolate brown, orange, greens and blues, to cream, to white. Colors in the ivory result from mineral seeping into the ivory as it lays in the frozen tundra.
