In conjunction with this initiative, the Consumer Justice Group recently launched its “Nursing Home Toolkit” on its website (http://www.consumerjusticegroup.com/
“We have two main goals in pushing for this day of collective action,” explained Fortis Davis Morse, an attorney with the Consumer Justice Group. “One is spiritual, the other pragmatic. The first is to show our elders that they are in our thoughts and are loved. The second, also important, is to reduce the number of injuries like bedsores and falls that can be fatal and result from gross negligence.”
Morse went on to say that studies have shown that frequent visits help reduce incidents of staff inattention and abuse.
The Consumer Justice Group hopes this national day of visits will gain recognition and invites other concerned groups to join in this campaign to raise awareness about the “graying of America.” Currently persons 65 or older make up 13% of the U.S. population, and this number will double within 30 years.
The Consumer Justice Group first launched its website in 2001 as a means of informing consumers about corporate abuses. Through their website, The Group offers free consultation and legal help to families who suspect nursing home neglect or abuse. The Group also provides help to victims of stock broker fraud, drug recalls, and workplace wrongdoing.
