Justice Group Urges Sunday Nursing Home Visits

The Consumer Justice Group, a D.C.-based law firm dedicated to protecting and helping consumers across the U.S., urges Americans to visit nursing homes and hospitals the first Sunday in May.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Apr 25, 2007 – Washington, DC -- April 25, 2007 -- Furthering its commitment to protecting consumers and raising awareness about corporate abuses, the Consumer Justice Group, a D.C.-based law firm and online resource for information on corporate abuses, announced today its initiative to have Americans visit loved ones in nursing homes Sunday, May 6.

In conjunction with this initiative, the Consumer Justice Group recently launched its “Nursing Home Toolkit” on its website (http://www.consumerjusticegroup.com/nursinghomeabuse). Visitors to the site can download a checklist of care indicators and questions for staff that they can bring during their visit. Also available in this toolkit are a report card generator compiled from government nursing home inspection reports, forms and information on how to obtain an Advance Medical Directive and the Power of Attorney, articles on filing a complaint against a negligent nursing home, and other important information for anyone with a loved one in a nursing home.

“We have two main goals in pushing for this day of collective action,” explained Fortis Davis Morse, an attorney with the Consumer Justice Group. “One is spiritual, the other pragmatic. The first is to show our elders that they are in our thoughts and are loved. The second, also important, is to reduce the number of injuries like bedsores and falls that can be fatal and result from gross negligence.”

Morse went on to say that studies have shown that frequent visits help reduce incidents of staff inattention and abuse.

The Consumer Justice Group hopes this national day of visits will gain recognition and invites other concerned groups to join in this campaign to raise awareness about the “graying of America.” Currently persons 65 or older make up 13% of the U.S. population, and this number will double within 30 years.

The Consumer Justice Group first launched its website in 2001 as a means of informing consumers about corporate abuses. Through their website, The Group offers free consultation and legal help to families who suspect nursing home neglect or abuse. The Group also provides help to victims of stock broker fraud, drug recalls, and workplace wrongdoing.

You can find out more about the Consumer Justice Group and nursing home abuse and neglect at http://www.consumerjusticegroup.com. If a loved one was injured in a nursing home and you suspect abuse or neglect, you can speak with a Consumer Justice Group lawyer by calling 1-877-ABUSE-AD.
