Los Angeles, CA - 4/17/07 - Most people are scared when they hear about a "halfway house" in their neighborhood. People often associate them with unsupervised criminals packed to the rafters in dilapidated homes. Fountain House Sober Community in Hollywood is out to change that perception.
Often times, sober living and recovery homes, sometimes knows as transitional living homes are associated with the halfway houses of the past. Fountain House has created a model that is exactly the opposite. Preferring to refer to themselves as a "sober living community", they have strict admissions guidelines, curfews, mandatory and random drug testing, and an implemented recovery model that residents must follow. They host weekly house meetings, on-site 12 step meetings, and require their residents to be active in their recovery. There are house managers, house directors, and an executive director who oversee the community. Their facility is beautiful and offers apartment style living with hardwood floors in all the units, wireless internet, satellite television, and fully equipped kitchens.
Fountain House Sober Community also strives to be a great neighbor. Residents are in by curfew, remain drug and alcohol-free, and are required to maintain quiet hours. Guests participate in chores and property upkeep which keeps the property looking clean and maintained. Fountain House Sober Community often hosts barbecues, and events for different organizations in the community. They also host 12 step meetings on their property that non-residents are invited to attend. They are centrally located in Hollywood, CA.
