Dublin, Ireland – April 17, 2007 – MobileAware, the world’s leading provider of Mobile Service Infrastructure, today announced that it will host an international World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) workshop in Dublin, Ireland from 5 – 6 June. The event, which is co-sponsored by the Irish State Development Agency, Enterprise Ireland, will guide future W3C work on the standards and best practices for extending the Web from the desktop to a multitude of fixed and mobile devices in the home, office and mobile environments. Participants in the workshop will include industry experts from areas such as user interface and application modelling, security and usability, content adaptation and mobile device capabilities. The workshop is the second international W3C workshop to take place in Ireland – MobileAware previously hosted Ireland’s first W3C workshop in October 2004, which made significant contributions to the creation of an accessible device independent Web.

MobileAware has played a leadership role in the W3C since 2000 and is a founding sponsor of the W3C Mobile Web Initiative (MWI), which aims to make Web access from a mobile device as simple and convenient as Web access from a desktop device. MobileAware is represented within W3C by the company’s Chief Innovations Architect, Dr Rotan Hanrahan, who is Chair of the Device Description Working Group, is a member of the recently formed Ubiquitous Web Applications Working Group, and is also a member of the MWI Steering Council and W3C Advisory Committee.
