FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) – Grandparent Jimmy Deuchars intends to go on the political trail. Although Jimmy is disabled with very little mobility volunteering with the charity has helped him to overcome deep depression after his daughter died at age 25. The heartbreaking experience he and Margaret went through in losing contact with their grandchildren has made them determined that other grandparents or their grandchildren should not go t hrough the same torment.

Research by Goldsmith Collegessaid states that 80% of older peoples illnesses and problems real and phsycosomatic stem from separation and lonlieness.

His idea is to create one big voting power to prove the idea that as you get older you should be thrown on the scrap heap is ingrained and causes a “what’s the use of trying” attitude which is tottally wrong. Jimmy says “ I belive the root cause is a general disrepect due to the deterioation of the Traditional Family Values’ and the unfair family laws that causes so much misery to thousands of grandparents and their families, pensioners, and older people” if they were united they would have a powerful vote. “I promose to do my level best to change all our lives for the better if we get elected”

Jimmy is founder in Glasgow of ‘Grandparents Apart Self Help Group Scotland’ a charity set up because they had no where to turn for help or advice when they needed it and he is well know in parliament due to his constant lobbying for grandparents issues. His constant campaigning has taken him to Downing Street and to speak in the House of Commons. More recently he and June Loudoun a member of their Kilmarnock group were invited by the Scottish Executive, instigated by the groups lobbying, to travel back and forth to Edinburgh to work with them on the creation of the ‘Parenting Agreement’ and ‘The Charter for Grandchildren’ which was to accompany the Family Law Bill (Scotland) 2006 It was disapointing when it was made advisory only. Now the campaign is for it to be made legal as it is not working in it’s present status. There is an email petition on http://www.grandparentsapart.co.uk/forum/ and hard paper form.

Jimmy and June Loudoun have written a book about the story of the groups campaigning and the terrible story’s of their members experiences. It also contains guidelines for grandparents that have been working quite well and a questionaire about the law and courts and social services that will shock you. The book ‘Grandparents Speak out for Vulnerable children’ is on sale at http://www.grandparentsapart.co.uk. For £5.00p inc p&p.Cheques and postal orders should be made out to ‘GASH Scotland’ and crossed.
