19 years ago during the Easter Holiday, Tahiera Monique Brown was not buying pretty clothes for her children to wear to church. She was in a coma. Upon coming out of the coma, she would face the agony of reliving two years of agony and pain, as she worked tirelessly to rebuild the broken lives of her immediate family. It is amazing that, on Easter Sunday in 1988, this servant of the Lord was willing to choose death to save the lives of her children.
Tahiera has waited and hoped for an opportunity to speak to the church community. It is important to her that she speak to churches to share these issues, and encourage a response. While Annihilator of Innocence was not written as a Christian book (it contains language that was used by the perpetrator who held her hostage for two years), this does not make the book any less relevant for Christians to give their attention to the real life drama that is taking place in homes throughout the community. This book is written by a Christain who prayed in her closet without ceasing, and begged the Lord to save her from her pain.
The church community can become more involved in issues relating to domestic violence. Women’
17 You hear, O LORD, the desire of the afflicted;
you encourage them, and you listen to their cry,
18 defending the fatherless and the oppressed,
in order that man, who is of the earth, may terrify no more.
The church needs to heed God's call, and hear the cry of those in our community. Listen on Sunday morning, and hear the heart of God’s servant Tahiera. She wants nothing more than to find others who are willing to join her in this calling, which is truly a ministry, and help others to escape the pain and agony of domestic violence and sexual abuse.
