Birmingham, the nation’s second city, is home to many sporting and outdoor pursuits and, fortunately for one Tommy Filkin, it has one of the country’s very best outdoor karting circuits. Tommy was a prodigious karting talent when he lived in Yeovil and was worried that when he moved to Birmingham that his karting skills may go to waste. “I did an awful lot of karting when I lived in Somerset and when I moved up to Birmingham with my family I was hoping that there would be a karting track where I could continue my development,”
Karting in Birmingham has seen an explosion in interest and participation in recent years and Marketing Director for Paintball Guide Karting believes he can shed some light on why this is the case. “Karting circuits, not just in Birmingham but nationwide, have improved drastically over the last 10 years or so and the track that Tommy found is just one of many that we offer in the region. It’s no surprise that his karting prowess is flourishing there as our Central Birmingham Karting Centre is 800 metres in length and hosts many top class karting events,” says Goodliffe of the good state of karting affairs in Birmingham.
Tommy Filkin is quick to reaffirm the stance of Paintball Guide Karting Director, Goodliffe. “I first started karting when I was 8 and all the tracks I visited were of a pretty poor standard but I’m 16 now and the circuits really do have to be seen to be believed. The karts they use are far superior and the facilities are brilliant. The karting at the Birmingham track really tests my skills as it has some pretty tricky hair-pins and the straights are unbelievably fast. I’m there most weekends now and my karting is definitely getting better and better!” enthuses Tommy at how his karting career is going from strength to strength.
