BEER SHEVA, Israel — High-tech companies and the number of patents filed in Israel are on the rise, causing a huge demand for law professionals who are well-versed in the field of intellectual property.
In fact, a recent Business Data Israel study deemed that Israel places second in the number of European patents filed by non-European companies, and fourth in the number of U.S. patents filed by non-U.S. companies per year, per capita. According to a report released by BioIsrael, the country leads the world in patents for medical devices, based on its population.
On the heels of these reports, the 11th annual Managing Intellectual Property World IP Survey ranked the top patent law practices throughout the world and named a family-owned Israeli firm that has been in existence through four generations as the best in its country.
Luzzatto & Luzzatto, which provides an array of patent and trademark services to clients around the globe, has been voted the best “Patent Prosecution”
The lists of leading firms were compiled by a team of researchers in Managing Intellectual Property’s London, New York and Hong Kong offices. Those five researchers spoke with hundreds of intellectual property practitioners and attorneys to gather information about various companies and trends affiliated with the IP market.
The lists — which are separated into patent and trademark work — contain various tiers. Those at the top received the most recommendations for the quality and depth of their practice and were ranked based on extensive feedback from their peers.
Luzzatto & Luzzatto’s excellence has spanned four generations and three centuries. The company was founded in Milan, Italy, in 1869. Since that time, the firm moved to Israel and has become known as one of the largest patent, trademark and design law firms in the country. Luzzatto & Luzzatto is headed by three of the world’s leading IP experts, including husband and wife team Drs. Kfir and Esther Luzzatto and Michal Hackmey, who serves as chairperson of the Israel Patent Attorneys Association.
The first part of the annual World IP Survey, covering patent work, was published in Managing Intellectual Property’s February issue. The full results of the survey will be re-published in the annual IP Contacts Handbook in April.
