Another must-read for all reading aficionados and available through the Xlibris online bookstore is a soul-stirring memoir entitled, Greenwich Village Vignettes . This is a compilation of stories about an Italian-American who grew up in the ‘40s and ‘60s in the famous New York area inhabited by artists, bohemians, and underworld characters.

The Greenwich Village Vignettes focuses on a young boy’s recollections of his experiences shortly after World War II and his adulthood memories in the heady 1960s. Scenes unfold in bustling New York, a place noted for intellectuals and artists on one hand, and mobsters on the other.

Bringing the story to life is Greenwich Village Vignettes author, Alfred Canecchia, who tells several tales – both inspirational and tragic – about people he knew and events that he watched unfold as he grew up. His master story-telling includes memories of the Korean War and the tumultuous 1960s of free love, drugs, rock music, and the Vietnam War.  In a neighborhood that had Italian-American families, mafiosi, drug addicts, and artists, Canecchia immersed himself in unforgettable experiences that he now writes about decades after they happened.

Born in Manhattan in 1945, Alfred Canecchia spent the first thirty years of his life in Greenwich Village. He has a Master of Arts degree from New York University.  He and his ex-wife Angela DiStefano have two sons. Canecchia now lives in Riverdale, Bronx, New York with his second wife, Roberta.
