•   Supply Chain Management.  GP is strong in Sales Order Processing, Inventory Control, Purchase Order Processing, Bill Of Materials, discrete Manufacturing, with some extensions you can deploy barcode processing, integration with Microsoft Retail Management (Microsoft RMS).  Freight Forwarding requires third party custom modules, which are typically customized additionally for each new customer: Agent Settlement Report, Cross-Companies Agent Settlement (currently our company is under way of implementing this functionality for GP partner in Montreal)
•   GP Customization Scenarios.  Looks like old-good-days Great Plains Dexterity or now Microsoft Dexterity is yielding way to new technologies, such as Extender, eConnect, Visual Studio .Net C# and VB development.  However even in nowadays scenarios you will see the cases when Dexterity is playing fron end role for custom screens, transferring customization role to eConnect via .Net DLL procedures and functions
•   GP Vanilla Implementations.  Implementations, Versions Updates or also referred as upgrades, data conversions, when you are moving away from legacy systems, such as Great Plains Accounting (GPA), Intellisol Purchase Order Processing.  These scenarios typically require consultants with 10 years plus experience and skills in Microsoft SQL as well as in such dbs as Ctree Faircom, Btrieve Pervasive SQL 2000
•   Legacy Integration.  Microsoft Dynamics GP Integration Manager is good entry level and end-user integration tool.  If you need integration going beyond IM, you should consider eConnect, SQL Stored Procedures or Microsoft Dexterity .  In some cases, especially with Pervasive SQL 2000/Btrieve and Ctree drivers Microsoft Access is very good tool for data repair, conversion and migration
•   Reporting,  Since version 9.0 Microsoft Dynamics GP prefers Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services versus Crystal Reports (that were recommended tool for version 7.0-8.0).  You should setup MS SQL Server Reporting Services with your GP client and then you will be ready to enable custom SRS reports
•   Microsoft Great Plains Dynamics GP Report Writer Reports.  SOP Long Invoice Form is typical example when you need to move/upgrade your old form to new version.  Graphical logo, custom calculations and formula fields are subjects to special attention.
