Karting To Olympic Fitness In The Capital

A London philanphropist sees Tony Blair's speech on fitness for the Olympics and arranges karting sessions for kids at one of London's premier karting circuits as she tries to improve fitness.

PRLog (Press Release) - Mar 06, 2007 -
Fitness is a pressing concern with the Olympics just around the corner and only recently Tony Blair addressed the nation about improving fitness levels before the Games roll around in 2012. Well, one Fulham resident has taken it upon herself to lead kids to fitness by arranging weekly karting events at one of London’s premier kart tracks. Karen Alwoody, a local business woman, was struck by Blair’s words and vowed to make a difference, “I couldn’t agree more that fitness is a cause for concern and having looked around London for activities that would be suitable and exciting enough to bring kids back time and again, there was only one obvious choice…karting,” say Ms Alwoody as to the reasoning behind her actions.

“I did some research on the internet and came across a website called Go Ballistic Karting, who had an excellent choice of karting tracks in and around the London area and having spoken to the Go Ballistic Karting Sales Consultants, we decided to opt for their Central London Circuit,” says Karen as she peruses the photos of the last event she organised, “I basically book out the circuit once a week and kids from the local area are able to to take part in Go Ballistic Karting’s GP Experience events and, it’s safe to to say, that the kids enjoy the activity immensely! I’m also informed that karting can be very good for fitness as involves a lot more movement than you would think, so, hopefully it’s making a difference…even if it’s only a small one”.

Marketing Director for Go Ballistic Karting, Robert Goodliffe, was more than happy to help when he heard of Karen’s intentions. “We were delighted that Ms Alwoody chose to use one of our karting tracks as we are pleased to be involved in such a worthy cause. Karting may not look like the most strenuous of activities but the circuit is 650 metres and it can really take it out of you! You will certainly burn off more than a few calories when you go karting!”

With some five years until the Olympics, there is plenty of time to turn the country’s fitness levels around and with the generosity of one London resident and the exhilarating pursuit of karing that transformation may have already begun.
