FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Mar 01, 2007 -
"Polyester Chain Report : 2006" distributed by Mumbai based distributors Bharat Book Bureau, the polyester industry expanded by 9.5% in terms of value to around US $ 33 billion and by 2% in terms of volume in the year 2005.Also during that year, the global production of polyester touched around 25 million tons.

Polyester accounts for nearly 75% of all the man-made fibres around the world. During the last five years, the production of polyester has increased over 5% per annum. But however, the forecasts seem grim, as the next four to five years would see the growth slowing down to around 4% per annum.

The global polyester production capacity stands at around 36 million tons, out of which 15 million tons is of staple fibre and the remaining 21 million tons is of filament yarns. The report mentions that nearly 83% of the staple fibre capacities and 89% of the filament capacities are in Asia, and China accounts for nearly 53% of staple fibre an 57% of filament yarn global capacity.

India, South Korea, Indonesia, Taiwan, USA and Turkey are the major producers of polyester in the world. In the polyester staple fibre segment, the major importers are China and USA while the major exporters are South Korea and Taiwan.

Similarly, in the in the polyester filament market, China, Mexico, Brazil are the major importers while South Korea , Taiwan, Mexico, Indonesia and Malaysia are the major exporting countries. In the year 2005, the polyester industry was weighed down heavily by the rise in crude oil prices which had raised the prices of PTA and MEG, the raw materials for polyester production.

The report covers comprehensively up-to-date statistics on the entire value chain beginning from propylene to paraxylene to polyester fibre and filament. An added feature of this report is the process descriptions, end use and derivatives along with the latest producer-wise capacity. Also included is the tabulation and graphical presentation of trends and status of demand and supply in polyester chain across countries.
