PRLog (Press Release) - Feb 22, 2007 -
The weather, as is often the case in England, put a dampener on proceedings for young Devonshire student, Billy Collins. It was the Summer holidays and he and a group of friends had a day of surfing planned on the Cornwall coast but, alas, the weather conspired against them and the waves were non-existent. “We were gutted”, explains Billy, “we’d been planning the surfing trip for ages and when we all got down there, the sea was dead calm and surfing simply wasn’t an option”. This was when Billy and his rabble of disappointed surfers sought refuge in a local internet café.

“We were all trying to think of things we could do but all our ideas were fairly lacklustre to say the least”, continues Billy as he checks the weather conditions on the internet. “This was when I stumbled across a the karting section of a website called Paintball Guide and it showed that the Devon area had some of the best karting circuits in the country,” explains Billy. “None of us had been karting before and it sounded like cracking fun, so, we rang Paintball Guide Karting up and, fortunately, they could fit us in that day for a GP Experience Package at their Newquay circuit”.

Karting, especially in the Devon & Cornwall region has undergone an explosion in popularity in recent times and Robert Goodliffe, Marketing Director for Paintball Guide Karting, thinks he knows why this might be the case. “You just have to look at the standard of Karting circuits nowadays. They are so much better than they used to be and the equipment that they use is really top end stuff,” enthuses Robert. “Just take a look at our Paintball Guide Karting Newquay Circuit for example. It is 1200 metres in length, which makes it one of the largest karting tracks in the UK, and they use top of the range 400cc Honda Karts! This would have been unheard of a few years ago,” explains Goodliffe as to why he believes karting has become more and more popular.

As for Billy, well, it’s safe to say, he and the rest of his friends are glad that Mother Nature decided not to blow a gale that day. “The karting was unbelievable! We couldn’t believe just how big the track was and I swear the karts positively flying around the circuit! I didn’t think anything with give me a buzz like surfing but karting definitely did and I definitely be going back next time I’m in the Devonshire area”!
