FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PRLog (Press Release) –
Feb 18, 2007 – Free these days is never free which is why when a truly free service comes online with no strings attached it’s worthy being written about.
Depending upon which way you look at it avatars came online about 5,000 years ago, or just after Neil Stephenson’s 1992 science fiction novel, Snow Crash appeared on the market and was wholeheartedly adopted by the online community as the bible of avatar use. Since then the widespread usage of avatars in Instant Messengers like Yahoo!, MSN and online forums as well as cha services like Skype and ICQ has led to a massive surge in their online use which, however, works against the individuality of the online digital image. Amerland Enterprises have launched an entirely free avatar creation service which allows you to create an avatar according to your own specifications and from graphics or photographs you supply. That way you are guaranteed to have a unique online avatar representing your digital presence. Company CEO, David Amerland, explains the decision: “We abhor the sameness of avatars on the net. Avatars were created to be unique. The very fact that they are all the same because of limited choice or because you have to pay to create one annoys us!” It was this annoyance, apparently, which led to the decision to crate the free avatar creation service utilising spare capacity in the company’s graphics design team. “We know that there is a cost involved,” says David, “we are willing to experiment and see how it goes. We get some free publicity and we do our bit for the improvement of the online community and best of all it is totally free. The service requires nothing from the end user. You do not have to register for anything, there is nothing to sign up for, we don’t even store your email address after you have sent us the pictures or graphics and we have designed your avatar. We really believe in the power of the net and go to great lengths not to abuse it. This is a true free lunch in every sense of the word.” David Amerland did not explain what would happen should the company get flooded with emails requesting the avatar creation service. “We stand behind it. Should we find ourselves inundated we will find a way to deal with it, but right now we are prepared to allocate resource time as necessary.”
