SoftArea51, launched Jan 12, is a web based software downloads archive who joined the ASP Shareware community adopting its principles and statements in promoting the software technologies and the software publishers.
SoftArea51's declared purpose is to get the software publishers closer to software users by promoting only quality freeware and shareware software.
For a long period of time the shareware concept was largely misunderstood. In fact, shareware does not refer to a software category but to a marketing strategy of promoting computer software. A user tries out the program, and thus shareware has also been known as "try before you buy".
