PRLog (Press Release)Feb 14, 2007 – This report profiles six major textile and clothing companies in Thailand. The six have been chosen to show the range and versatility of the Thai industry.

Castle Peak was set up in 1978 to make knitwear but, faced by growing competition, it diversified. Today it is Thailand’s largest maker of trench coats and ski jackets. It has two factories and 3,500 employees. It exports all its products and in 2004 it had a turnover of US$40 mn.

Gold Mine is Thailand’s largest producer of shirts and blouses. It is highly automated, and continually upgrades its efficiency. It had an annual turnover of US$36 mn in 2004 and employed around 2,300 people. Its main export markets are the USA, the EU and Japan.

Jong Stit, set up in 1940, is Thailand’s second biggest textile firm in revenue terms, as well as its leading vertical knitting manufacturer. It comprises four affiliated companies, and 35% of output is exported. In 2003 it employed 6,000 people and had a turnover of US$195 mn.

Nan Yang Textile is family owned and one of Thailand’s top textile makers. It has 12,000 employees and makes yarn, fabric and garments. It exports all the clothing it produces and is in the process of expanding.

The Hong Kong-owned Thai Garment Export was set up in 1967 to produce men’s shirts. It is now the largest clothing producer in Thailand, with an annual turnover of US$170 mn in 2004 and 9,500 employees. All its production is exported.

Thai Spinning is one of only three vertically integrated fully-fashioned knitwear companies in Thailand, incorporating yarn spinning and dyeing. It produces sweaters for export, had an annual turnover of US$15 mn in 2004 and employed around 1,500 people.
