Transfer from the Port of Rome: Monuments to See When Getting to Rome

Cruising to Rome through its port with the visit to the etruscan necropolis

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Feb 13, 2007 – Since the year 2001, many customers are coming to Rome no more through the traditional transportation meanings, but cruising across the mediterranean sea. The harbor of Civitavecchia is becoming every year more and more important as alternative tourist hub.
If customers have no time to spend in Rome or are coming just for few hous in this part of northern Rome, they can have a look to the Etruscan nceropolis located in Cervetery which is still so mysterious and amazing for the richness of its history
Built by the Etruscan merchants between the seventh and the third centuries BC, the 'city' is still not fully excavated, but there are a remarkable number of stone tombs lining little streets, and you can easily spend several hours exploring.
The Etruscans built cities and ports that have long destroyed by the Romans, but the care and industry they put into the homes for their dead has resulted in a lasting monument. The experience of visiting these tombs is so remarkable that sometimes we think to disturb them.
The Banditaccia Necropolis site, a short distance outside the small town of Cerveteri, is huge and surprisingly bare of visitors. You can wander as you please - and take a flash light. The major tombs are signposted, have steps for access and lights for illumination. The majority of the etruscan tombs contain stone 'beds' with carved pillows, some also provide what seem to be stone chairs. There are round tombs, square tombs, posh tomb development and streets of terraced tombs.
And if you want to se where the ceramic and the artworks of these tombs are preserved you have to visit in Rome the vatican museum and the etruscan museum of Villa Giulia.
The Etruscan civilization grew in the north of Rome from the 9th to the 1st century B.C. In Tuscany, Umbria and Northern Latium many Etruscan tombs have been excavated, bringing to light innumerable works of art manufactured by this highly-skilled people: carved stone sarcophagi, wall-paintings, bronze reliefs, ceramic vases, golden jewelry and other objects dating from well over 2000 years ago.
Several are the theories about the etruscans' origins. Some ancient historians, like Herodotus , recorded that they came to Italy from what now is called Turkey, but nowadays it is generally thought that their civilization developed in Italy as a consequence of the Villanovan culture, which prevailed in the same area during the 10th century B.C. They were a merchant people, however, and traded extensively with the civilizations of the eastern Mediterranean, coming under their influence.

Cruising to Rome is a new way to explore the northern parts of the environs of the eternal city like the etruscan necropolis. If you want to have tours of Rome out of the beaten paths you can visit http://www.rome-airport.org
