The ASI SIG was formed with a primary mission to develop a switch fabric architecture based on PCI Express technology and has completed its specification development. The ASI SIG Board of Directors recently approved a motion to dissolve the ASI SIG and transfer all assets (including specifications, works in progress, copyrights and other assets) to PICMG.
Rajeev Kumar, the outgoing president of the ASI SIG said, “PICMG's long history, wide membership, which includes roughly half of the ASI SIG membership, and market focus on high performance telecommunications and industrial computing applications is a perfect fit for a PCI Express-based open fabric architecture such as ASI.”
At its meeting of January 8th, PICMG's Executive membership approved the transfer of the set of ASI specifications. PICMG will offer these specifications in the same form as they were offered by the ASI SIG. “This does not mean that PICMG endorses the ASI specifications over other switched fabric solutions embodied in other PICMG specifications,”
PICMG will post the white papers and background material developed by the ASI SIG and its members on the PICMG web site. The Advanced Switching Specifications will be available from PICMG.
