In the aftermath of the many recent global disasters, companies, both large and small, have recognized the value of Disaster Recovery or Business Continuity Planning to their continuing economic vitality. Many organizations have developed plans ensuring that all business data has been carefully backed-up and stored at redundant locations on and off-site. However, when it comes to ensuring voice and fax communications redundancy, many plans seem to falter. And its found to be especially true for Small Businesses and the smaller operating units of larger organizations. This is a serious matter when considered in the light of a recent Continuity Insights/KPMG Business Continuity Management Study finding that of “Companies with annual revenues of less than $50 million, 39.75 percent have experienced telecommunications failure within the last 12 months.”
When questioned about this lack of telecom contingency planning, the two most often-voiced reasons for not also implementing communications backup plans are: “We are simply too busy right now.” or “These options are too difficult and too expensive for us to implement right now."
