Due to that run the Reds are now hot on the heels of Chelsea for that second spot, while Liverpool fans will thank me for saying that in this form who knows the title might not be out of reach just yet!!!
In that game in midweek readers of my preview where done a massive favour after I pointed you in the direction of a maximum bet on Liverpool, while also advising the Over 2.5 goals. So let’s hope Rafa’s men can add some more gold to our pockets as we look at the best bets in their game this Saturday.
This fixture between Liverpool and Everton is surely the game all Merseysiders look out for first at the start of the season as passions, traditions and years of family loyalty are at stake in the Liverpool area.
Being an early kick-off Liverpool will be keen to keep up the sustained pressure on Chelsea and Man Utd, knowing that United have tricky trip to White Hart Lane, while Mourhino’s men travel across town to Charlton later over the weekend.
The bookmakers understandably have Liverpool as their clear favourites around the 8/13 mark, with the draw at 13/5 and a win for the Toffeemen at 11/2.
Everton are having one of their better campaigns sitting in eighth in the league, but looking at their results it’s hard to know what to expect from them week to week. Their last six games have shown mixed fortunes winning two, drawing two and losing two, so although 11/2 looks a nice price it’s hard to have any confidence in them at the moment.
Andy Johnson has clearly been a hit since his summer move from Palace and with nine goals to his name and an England recall this has been proved. However, their star striker will miss the game due to a semi-serious injury sustained in their last game against Wigan and this will be a major blow.
The blue side of Liverpool will though this season be looking for famous and rare double (last done 84/85 season) after thumping the Reds 3-0 in the early part of the season at Goodison. If you think a repeat scoreline is on the cards then you will be rewarded with huge 100/1 odds for a 3-0 Everton win.
On to Liverpool, as already stated Rafa’s men could not be in better form in the league at present and after he spent much of the early part of the season tinkering around with his strike pairing he’s finally succumb, to what I thought he should have done ages ago, and that’s play all three of them.
Crouch (13), Bellamy (7) and Kuyt (10) have all proved their worth with 30 goals between them so far and so playing them all is a certain recipe for goals. Add this to their steady defence of Carragher, Hyypia, Finnan and Agger, who have only let in two goals in their last 13 league games, then Liverpool are looking more and more like a team to fear.
As you have probably worked out by now I’m swaying towards another victory for Liverpool and looking at recent Merseyside clashes this is further backed up. The last 20 at Anfield have seen 10 Liverpool wins, 8 draws and only 2 Everton wins.
Yes, you could say that on those past matches the draw at 13/5 looks the best value, but with Liverpool in such rampant form, scoring 11 in their last five league games they are a team to have on your side.
So as far as the best bets go, covering two of the three strikers, Crouch and Kuyt to net the first goal at 11/2 and 5/1 will give you a solid run for your money, while with six of the last eight derby’s have yielded over 2.5 goals that is of interest.
Finally, although a short price, Liverpool to score the first goal of the game at 8/15 looks a certain winner with the Reds sure to have the better chances, their strikers on fire, and their great defence record.
