Oscar’s restaurant takes Barrie Winterfest by storm

Oscar’s restaurant sponsors Barrie Winterfest and Festival of Ice, offering local youth a chance to be Chef-for-a-day with executive chefs Randy Feltis and Racheal Whitman

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Jan 23, 2007 – Barrie, ON - January 23, 2007 – Barrie is a flurry of festivities this February, and Oscar’s restaurant cooks up a whirlwind of fun as the exclusive fine and casual dining sponsor for Winterfest and Festival of Ice. On February 3rd and 4th, 2007, downtown Barrie transforms into a winter wonderland with family-friendly indoor and outdoor activities like dog sled rides, horse-drawn wagon rides, lumberjack shows, ice skating, polar bear swim, pancake breakfast and much more.

Ever wonder what goes on behind the kitchen doors of a restaurant? Here is the chance for local youth to learn how to dazzle and impress an audience with culinary talents. To heat things up and melt away the winter blues during Winterfest, teens can enter to be a ‘Chef-for-a-day’ at Oscar’s restaurant. Youth aged 13 to18 years-old are eligible to win the opportunity to chop, sauté and cook alongside Oscar’s gourmet chefs Randy Feltis and Racheal Whitman. The lucky winners will be announced, and two local teens can spend the day out of their toques and in chef hats at Oscar’s restaurant. Date will be announced after the draw.

“Oscar’s is thrilled to play a major role as a sponsor to Barrie’s Winterfest and Festival of Ice this year,” said Randy Feltis, owner and executive chef. “We want teens in the community to get motivated, and to introduce them to the world of culinary arts. There is a lot of hype now in mainstream media, with all the culinary reality shows, so we thought this would give them a chance to try something challenging and different. Being a ‘Chef-for-a-day’ is a unique opportunity to get a firsthand glimpse behind the kitchen doors to what goes on in the ‘back of the house’, and could potentially arm them with the skills of an Iron Chef!”.
