Organic search engine optimisation (SEO) or pay-per-click (PPC)

When discussing search engine optimisation with clients, we often use the term “Organic SEO”. And pretty much most people who aren’t in the industry will respond “What are you on about!”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Jan 09, 2007 -
Organic SEO is the term we use when we want to optimise a website and want to make it reach a higher place in the natural results pages of the search engine. Not a sponsered link.

Pay-per-click or PPC for short is when you pay the search engine for a highlighted sponsored link which usually appears on the right or at the top of the results page. Every time someone clicks on your advert you will get charged. You can set the length of time the advert is visible, and how much your daily budget is, as well as setting a CPC (cost per click). So whilst this type of thing can be very costly if not managed properly, all of the tools are there to allow you to have complete control over the length and cost of your advertising campaign.

So which should you choose? Some companies use both, PPC is a very instant way of driving traffic to your website and if you have a decent budget you can generate a massive amount of traffic to your site within a few hours.

The organic solution takes more time, usually about 3-6 months to gain some targeted rankings, but it doesn’t cost you anything once you get there. You will receive lots of hits for your chosen search terms and as long as you maintain and check your position within the search engine to make sure you aren’t losing ground to competitors, you should generate good quality hits for a decent amount of time.

Each business needs to look at their type of business to help them decide which is the best from of search engine optimisation for them. I always feel that PPC can be very costly for a service based business, like SpinDogs, we tend not to get so many leads from the PPC campaigns we have run, when you are offering a service people will shop around and look at maybe the top 2 or 3 sites, so often your paying just for them to have a brief look at your homepage and move on.

If you’re selling products or services directly over the internet then PPC can generate a high return on investment. The features provided by Google in there Adwords PPC service allow you to target the add to a specific product page within your site, and if you are offering competitive prices or offers you can generate great impulse buys from using PPC.

They key thing to remember here is that whatever your business there is no straight forward answer when it comes to marketing your website on the internet. You need to be flexible, patient and be prepared to adapt to get you the best return on your investment. Quite often the best approach with online marketing is to use both organic and PPC to target different areas.

If you would like any additional information or a face to face meeting with one of our advisers do not hesitate to get in touch. The internet can deliver great marketing results.
