Chimericana Books Releases Chimeraworld #4 (all cars must die), edited by Oxford, UK-based artist/writer Mike Philbin, the man behind the subversive writing persona Hertzan Chimera.
The modern motorcar (and the automotive industry that supports it) is nothing but a cancer on the face of the Earth. This year, Mark Zirbel, Christina Kinnan, Paul Murray Collrin, Jenny Ashford, Liam Davies, Courtney Burback, Mark Robyn, M.P. Johnson, Tyler Runde, J. M. Heluk, Kelly Stevens, Ken C Goldman, Ray Wallace, Gerard Brennan, Brad C. Hodson, M. Jones, Suzanne Burns, Jeff Drake, Cameron Pierce, Sean Rickards, David Mitchell Turnbull, Kek-W and Alex Severin bring you twenty-three tales of the revolting lives and ugly deaths of these metal beasts of the road.
Editor/publisher Mike Philbin says:
"So, what is this year's Chimeraworld about? It's about the theme CARS and the theme DEATH, hence the subtitle 'all cars must die'. It's about car-lust, it's about car-warfare, it's about car murder, car revenge, car conscience... But we don't understand your guidelines Mr Philbin, can you make them any clearer? Well, I can try. The thing I hate about life in the twenty first century is that we're driving around in gas-guzzling cars that are eating up the world's resources and are, technically, the same as the Model T Ford from the start of the twentieth century. 4 wheels. Chassis. A noisy, polluting engine. Traffic jams. Cars are the true horror of modern living (there is no alternative)
Mike Philbin began editing (and publishing) the Chimeraworld anthologies two years ago because he couldn't find any fiction that could hold his attention longer than *clicks fingers* that. Most of the things he read were derivative, weak, grey, clichéd, genre-compliant filler product that any honest editor would have sent back in a black fugue of disdain or simply poured gasoline on and burned in the reject bin.
What makes the Chimeraworld anthologies so different from 99.37% of the literature you find on the book shelves today is a) they defy genre, 3) they're very strange and ix) you can't find them in the shops - Chimeraworld is a totally online trade paperback venture.
-Chimeraworld #1 (23 bizarro tales) a pure 'grand guignol' festival of all things subversive, horrific and insane.
-Chimeraworld #2 (hell is a sorry s**t hole) the chillled-out downer-antidote to the previous year's gory excesses.
-Chimeraworld #3 (atheist, misogynist, terrorist) 23 stories that touch on one or more of these provocative themes.
