Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce Prepped for General Assembly

2007 Legislative Agenda Paving Way for Progress

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Jan 03, 2007 -
The Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce today released its agenda for the 2007 session of the Indiana General Assembly. Local government modernization and fiscal home rule are two key initiatives the Chamber will pursue.

The Indianapolis Chamber’s 2007 Legislative Agenda outlines plans for a continued push for greater efficiencies in municipal service delivery and finance through a unified government, including fire consolidation and the elimination of duplicative functions of township government.

As outlined in its October release of the “Invest in Indianapolis Phase II” report, the Chamber will give emphasis to local government accountability and support “Home Rule” - giving local governments more control over their own structural and fiscal matters to fund government services while minimizing the burden of property taxes.

The Chamber’s ongoing mission to invest in the community’s future workforce will parlay into its support of full-day kindergarten. Transportation, with particular focus to mass transit and greater use of alternative financing for road construction projects, will also take the front seat in this year’s session. The Chamber’s board endorsed the concept of granting the state tolling authority for the Indiana Connector.

“The 2006 session saw many pro-business successes,” said Roland M. Dorson, President and CEO, Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce. “We are prepared to continue the forward momentum and support “big ideas” for progress in our city and state.”

The Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce employs five full-time business advocates in the areas of local government and fiscal policy, economic growth and education/workforce policy.
