The tournament is now in its 33rd year after being first played back in 1975 when snooker legends John Spencer and Ray Reardon met in the final, with Spencer winning 9-8. Visit www.easyodds.com for more snooker odds.
The final is now settled as the best of 19 (first to 10) and is played from the 14th-21st January this year.
In the competitions history Stephen Hendry is by far the most successful player winning the event six times, with Cliff Thornburn, Steve Davis and Paul Hunter all the next best on three wins.
Current world number one Ronnie O’Sullivan has only landed the tournament twice, but has been a beaten finalist on four other occasions.
The last five years have seen a different winner each time and with the recent erratic behaviour of the games best player Ronnie O’ Sullivan, when he walked out on a game with Hendry, then the betting for this year’s event is sure to be interesting.
If O’Sullivan does line up, as expected, then the bookmakers will have to work for their money when pricing up the outright market with a lot of varied views expected.
