Rouen, France (Inttranet): The nominees for the Inttranet Linguist of the Year Awards for 2006 have now been designated. These honorary citations by the members of the Inttranet, the global network of professional interpreters and translators, recognize the struggle - and sometimes the personal sacrifice - of linguists who have helped increase public awareness of the importance of linguists and languages during the year. Nominees are selected in relation to the frequency and impact of their presence in the press worldwide during the year.
Previous Inttranet Linguist of the Year Award winners include noteworthy linguists such as Noam Chomsky (MIT), Alex Waibel (Carnegie Mellon), David Crystal (University of Wales), and organizations such as UNESCO.
