Abstract Expressionism is "Tiny Treasure" in Charlotte

Raleigh-based abstract expressionist Jason Craighead adds unusual 12x12 painting to holiday art show in Charlotte

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Dec 01, 2006 -
December, 2006 (RALEIGH, NC) – Small Parts, a 12” X 12” painting by abstract expressionist Jason Craighead of Raleigh, is among 40 small works featured in a special holiday art exhibit at Center of the Earth Gallery in Charlotte.

Owners Ruth Ava Lyons and Paul Sires invited selected artists from the gallery’s stable as well as emerging Charlotte artists to contribute works that measured no more than 12” X 12”.

The diminutive size was a challenge for Craighead whose canvases are usually much larger. “My paintings are a very physical process,” he explained. “I’m always finding new ways to push paint.”

Small Parts continues the artist’s current affinity for layering acrylic paint, pencil, pastel, and graphite to create abstract compositions, with a base layer of long drips providing depth and direction.

Jason Craighead has exhibited his work throughout the Southeastern United States where he has received numerous awards. His strong patron base consists of both large corporations and private collectors, including a former U.S. Senator.

The exhibit, entitled “Tiny Treasures,” will remain up through December 29.

Center of the Earth Gallery showcases high quality and collectible contemporary art in a wide variety of styles, media and price ranges. Part of Charlotte’s North Davidson Street Arts & Entertainment District, the gallery is located at 3204 N. Davidson Street.
