Single Gals Get Ready for Sadie Hawkins Day

With Sadie Hawkins Day upon us, many single women who normally would never approach a man and ask him out on a date, may actually reconsider and go for it.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Nov 05, 2006 -
Sadie Hawkins day is usually observed on the Saturday that follows November
9th, but according to the Old Farmer's Almanac, is widely celebrated on
November 13th. Sadie Hawkins Day is a rare holiday that originated in the
late 1930's in Al Capp's "Li'l Abner" cartoon. The cartoon Sadie was the
daughter of the Mayor of the town of Dogpatch. The Mayor was desperately
trying to marry off his daughter, so he held a race and dubbed the day
"Sadie Hawkins Day". Single men were given a head start in the race, but
any man caught by a woman had to become her husband.

The tradition of Sadie Hawkins Day continues, but instead of a race leading
to marriage, women usually just ask a man out on a date. The day is widely
celebrated on college campuses and Sadie Hawkins dances are held in high
schools across the nation.

Paul Falzone, CEO of the world's largest dating service, The Right One and
Together Dating as well as online hybrid, eLove.com, offers a few tips for
asking a man out on Sadie Hawkins Day:

Get Talking
Simple conversation is an ice breaker. Talking opens the door to finding
common interests and showing that you are really paying attention and a good
listener. Topics that could be explored include your interests, politics,
recent vacations or events you've enjoyed, movies, music, food, pets, books
and so on. There's a variety of "safe" topics to discuss, essentially
guaranteeing that when you do ask for that date, you'll get a positive
response.

And, by finding out his interests, you are better able to lead into asking
for a date. For example, if you discover you are both dog owners, ask if
he'd like to walk the dogs in the park and volunteer to bring coffee and
doggie treats. This keeps it casual, yet it's still considered a "date" and
may lead to another.

Best Foot Forward
A lot of people will say that looks are not everything and that it is
"what's inside that counts". This is true, although, looks do count to a
point. But, that said, the definition of what is "sexy" and "attractive" is
a matter of personal taste that has nothing do with the idealized image
deployed by Madison Avenue. You don't have to look like supermodel to be
desirable to someone.

Approaching a man to ask him out on a date is similar to going to a job
interview in that your appearance is very important with regard to the image
you project. Make sure you're appearance is neat and that you're not sending
the wrong message with your outfit. A mini-mini skirt and six inch spiked
heels would not convey your love of books to your well-read PhD colleague
who you'd really like to date. Wear something that you wouldn't be worried
about your mother or grandmother seeing you wearing. Although, you probably
wouldn't want to actually wear something they would wear either.

Put Yourself Out There
It's 2006, and there are many women who ask men out on dates all the time.
But, you still believe you could never be so bold. Not true. Allow Sadie
Hawkins Day to provide the empowerment you feel you need. If you are really
uncomfortable about asking him out to dinner, then tone it down and make it
more casual. You don't have to stick to the "traditional" dinner date for
it to be considered a real date. Just put yourself out there.

"If you can be yourself, and be confident in who you are, love will
eventually come knocking on your door," noted Falzone.
