This week my wonderful husband had surgery. It wasn't a major surgery, but it was still surgery. Neither one of us worked all week and we still have enough money to pay the bills, take my mother, who visited from Massachusetts, to all the tourist attractions, and buy lots and lots of toys for our 2 year old daughter. She is taken care of and happy, and life is going on.
My husband has a rare disease called Achalasia. Basically he couldn't eat - for a couple years. He could get down a few things here and there, but really he couldn't eat. He looked like a skeleton, and was getting so bad I didn't know what we were going to do. We finally got the surgery to go through with the insurance and today he ate an entire small pizza! I am crying as I write this because I was so worried that I would lose him.
If we had jobs, what would we have done this week? Hopefully we would both have bosses that were considerate and not fired us for taking this week off. But even if we did, could you afford to take a week off and not get paid for it? And what if we got fired? What then?
Well, we work for ourselves online, and we didn't get fired. We work at home, so we didn't take a pay cut, and our 2 year old still had both of her parents. Yes, my mother did have to watch her on the day of the surgery - but she has never been in daycare one day of her life. She is watched by family members who love her.
I love to work at home!
