Quantum3D Thermite TVC Selected by Telephonics Corporation for Mounted Warrior Multi-Media Communications Technology Demonstrator

Thermite TVC Enables U.S. Army Mounted Warrior Soldiers to Employ Telephonics TruLinkTM Wireless Intercommunication Technologies For Reliable Video/Image Data Relay Network For Enhanced Situational Awareness, Command and Control

WASHINGTON, D.C., -October 10th, 2006 - Quantum3D®, Inc., a leading provider of Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS), open-architecture, realtime visual computing products and solutions, announced today at the Association of the U.S. Army (AUSA) Annual Conference that Telephonics® Corporation, a subsidiary of the Griffon Corporation (NYSE: GFF) has selected the Thermite® Tactical Visual Computer (TVC) for use in Telephonics' Multi-Media Communications Technology Demonstrator for the U.S. Army Mounted Warrior (MW) Ensemble.

The MW Ensemble is an integrated soldier-fighting system intended to enhance the lethality, battle-command compatibility, survivability, mobility, and sustainability of mounted and dismounted Stryker Brigade Combat Team (SBCT) infantry soldiers. When equipped with Multi-Media Communications Technology, the MW Ensemble facilitates the sharing of battlefield multi-media information between soldiers, vehicles and command elements and further integrates individual soldiers into the chain of command by providing interoperability with the digital command and control of other platforms. More information on the U.S. Army Mounted Warrior Program may be found at http://peosoldier.army.mil/factsheets/SWAR_MW.pdf.

The purpose of the MW Multi-Media Technology Demonstrator is to assess the benefits of integration of low-data rate battlefield video sources including driver enhanced video, FBCB2 data, situational awareness and reconnaissance data and weapons targeting video into a Stryker unit. A key component of the system is the Therrmite TVC, which is optimized for man-wearable, battery powered applications and which enables dismounted soldiers using software to relay specific multi-media data including video and images via Telephonics TruLinkTM wireless intercommunications system to and from Stryker or other vehicles as well as to other MW Multi-Media Communications equipped soldiers. The Thermite TVC also enables the video/image data being captured and/or relayed to be displayed on the soldier's monocular HMD monocle or via a hand-held LCD available for the MW Ensemble.

"Thermite was specifically designed for use in man-wearable and vehicle-based tactical visual computing applications, so it's a natural fit for the Mounted Warrior Multi-Media Communications Technology Demonstrator," said Ross Q. Smith, Quantum3D president and co-founder. "All of us at Quantum3D look forward to working with the Telephonics team as they put this system through its paces which, we believe, will ultimately help our soldiers maintain information superiority on the battlefield."

Thermite TVC is Quantum3D's innovative, small form factor, COTS tactical PC that combines low-power, mobile CPU technology with advanced embedded 2D/3D graphics with video capture and display, and comprehensive I/O and wired/wireless communications capabilities in a ruggedized, sealed alloy enclosure with Mil-Spec connectors that is optimized for hosting C4ISR, C2, embedded training and other graphics and video intensive applications in both man-wearable and vehicle-based deployed environments. Designed to enable the rapid migration of PC-based applications from benign to extended environments and to reduce the footprint of legacy embedded systems, Thermite TVC supports both Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems. For surveillance and sensor applications, Thermite TVC also includes advanced video-capture and video-display functionality, with support for color space conversion, scaling, and overlays for NTSC, PAL, S-Video, and RS-170A formats. THERMITE TVC is available with both solid state and shock-resistant rotating disk drives and features comprehensive PC I/O and networking such as IEEE 802.3 Ethernet, USB 2.0, RS-232C, IEEE 802.11 and Bluetooth. Thermite is also available with popular military and civilian communications and I/O factory options including Mil-Std-1553B, EVDO, GPRS, Tactical/Secure Radios, CANBus and GPS.
