(Vancouver, BC) – Pianist Paul Lewis returns to Vancouver for his sixth performance with the Vancouver Recital Society (VRS), continuing toward the conclusion of his epic journey through Beethoven’s full cycle of 32 piano sonatas. October 15th will mark Lewis’ first of four performances this season with the VRS. Lewis returns in spring 2007 for three remaining concerts this season.
Schooled by master musician Alfred Brendel, Lewis is currently one of the most sought-after young pianists in the world. The Daily Telegraph of London said, “There is in Lewis’ playing a strong physicality, a firm connection between his deep thinking about the music and his articulation of it… It’s playing of intellectual rigor and imaginative vigor.”
The VRS’s artistic director, Leila Getz, could not agree more. “Lewis manages to play with such witticism and intelligence,”
Vancouver, along with only a handful of other cities in the world, will experience Lewis’ interpretation of the full cycle of Beethoven sonatas, with Sonatas 1, 2, and 3, and Sonata 23 “Appassionata”
