Podtours today launches its first European audio tours. Travellers can download them from the internet and play them back on any mp3 player while they look at the sights.
Podtours have real benefits for the independent traveller – or anyone who doesn't want to tag along behind the tourist guide's umbrella.
The user gets all the benefits of a walk with a tour guide – but without the need to join a large group, or pay expensive fees for a personal tour.
Each sight is on a different mp3 track – so users can see the sights in whatever order they like, take time off for a coffee or lunch, or revisit a site that was closed earlier. And if it's raining they can do the museum first and the walk afterwards!
Podtours can be downloaded and used on any mp3 player, or burned to CD for use in a car or portable CD player.
We thoroughly research the history and art history behind the place. We don't just tell Podtourists what's there – we tell them why it's the way it is. Many of our Podtours specialise on a particular aspect of the place – Baroque Rome, modernisme architeture of Barcelona, or Gothic Paris.
Each Podtour mixes the 'five star' sights with quirkier, often unnoticed ones – we put a lot of effort into trying to get the mix right.
Unlike official audio guides we don't have to pretend everything is great art! Our guides have their own opinions and they let them show.

Tours currently available include tours of Rome, Venice, Florence, Rouen, Paris, Chartres, and a number of English cathedrals (Norwich, Gloucester, Chichester, Salisbury and Winchester). Tours of Barcelona will be available shortly and in November the range will expand to include Ghent, Bruges and Antwerp.
Audio tours are priced depending on their length, from GBP1.75 to GBP4.50 (roughly USD 2.80 to 8) and can be purchased using Paypal.
