Greensboro, North Carolina -- Every era has its fads. A different hair style, slick kicks (fad shoes), tops, skirts, halters, shorts, knee boppers, double-breasted sport coats and suits, hip huggers, muscle shirts; you name it, more than likely it has some connection with a fad. There are fad events often attended by fans (fanatics) of the fads. Some generations seem to be characterized by the fad. Maybe it was a special car, special music, a special movie ("Love Story" is an example), a special dance or some other defining item, activity or occurrence.
Fads fade. One generation passes off the scene and another emerges and embraces its own defining items, activities, etc. Fads sometimes alter, amend or replace traditional practices and thus change the progressive patterns of life. In spite of that fact, one activity has survived every fad, every historical event, every turn in the tide of human experience and every attempt to suppress it. That is the activity of prayer. Wherever there are problems there is prayer. No contemporary human society is without problems and thus will not be without prayer. One might ask about those who do not know to pray. That is a fair question.
In every society that has the knowledge of prayer there are those that intensely embrace the activity. Our 21st Century society is no exception as may be seen in the many prayer sites and thousands of prayer requests found on the internet. One such example is the Hallelujah Prayer Warriors site found at http://www.trinbaptchurch.org/
Prayer is certainly more enduring than fads and when fads have faded and centuries have turned prayer continues to flourish.
