Passion, Tragedy, and Joy embodied by the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucia.
Performing at the Apolo Theatre in Andalusia, Barcelona, from the 21st of September to the 8th of October, the company Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía brings to life Cristina Hoyos’s “Viaje al Sur” (A Journey to the South). Cristina longed to express her passionate feelings for this Spanish region, and so she has done under the choreography ingeniousness of, dance artist and creator Ramon Oller and the musical expertise of, guitarists José Luís Rodriguez.
Cristina has made an inerasable mark on the world Flamenco dance. She became famous for her work with António Gades, being linked to the best Flamenco shows such as Bodas de Sangre (Blood Wedding, 1978), Carmen (1983) and Amor Brujo (1985).
Cristina’s talent is undeniable. She’s always distinguished herself with the techniques learned from the finest dance maestros Farruco, Pastora Imperio, Manuela Vargas and, of course, António Gades. Now, winner of the National Dance Award, with her own company, (Ballet Flamenco de Andalusia), presents “Viaje al Sul”, in Barcelona, after the huge impact the show had during the New York Flamenco Festival last February, “one if the year’s biggest dance events in New York City” – The New York Times.
Within the 25 member troupe that present the captivating program Ramon Oller is another main name that confers the Flamenco passion to the show, as he is responsible for the choreography. Ramon is also gifted by the techniques learnt from the best, such as Laura Tápides, Joan Tena, Ramon Slé, Martina Col and Dafna Rathause. Besides Spain, he studied contemporary dance in London and Spain, today Ramon is prize winning artist, having received the National Prize of Dance and the National Prize of Catalonia for his chorographic work.
