As the 2006-2007 college year starts up sword fighters from St. Louis, Missouri, Cleveland, Ohio and local residents are starting a new chapter of the medieval marshal arts organization Belegarth. “Monday September 25th (2006) at 6:30pm (EST) will be the official start of our newest Columbus Ohio Belegarth chapter that is being called ‘Arkona’. Tyler Creachbaum a student at OSU and native of St. Louis Missouri is spear heading the initiative to start up a regular running weekly medieval martial arts practice at Tuttle Park on the North side of the States Capitol just about 1 mile north of Ohio Stadium every Monday. He has help from many Ohio State University Students that are returning to school this fall, as well as local participants from Franklin County.” Kiesel said Thursday.
The competitive martial art of Belegarth is a medieval reenacting sport where participants use padded weaponry to safely portray medieval war. Participants who engage in combat wear medieval clothing, medieval-fantasy style clothing, and real armor while groups of combatants engage each other with full contact safety equipment designed to represent a full host of European and western martial arts weapons.
‘Arkona’ is one of the first new organizations getting help starting out from Ohio Belegarth, the state district for all Belegarth chapters in Ohio.
