Katie Melua Announces Wembley Arena Show
Britain’s most-loved female artist has revealed she will play a one-off show at Wembley Arena on Sunday 3rd December to conclude a another fantastic year.
The Wembley date will be Katie’s largest London show to date having sold out the Shepherds Bush Empire, Hammersmith Apollo, twice, and Royal Albert Hall on previous tours.
Tickets for her last British date of 2006 go on sale on Friday 1st September at 9am.
Katie Melua has been the biggest selling female artist in Britain since 2004 with both her debut album ‘Call Off The Search’ and her second album ‘Piece By Piece’ topping the charts. In addition to great success in Britain, her adopted country, Katie continues to be one of Britain’s most successful exports selling more than 6 million albums worldwide, remaining in the top 10 of the European chart for 6 months.
Katie’s 10 week European sell-out tour earlier this year included 18 sold out dates in Britain and a further 28 dates across continental Europe with a total audience exceeding 150,000 people.
Katie has spent the last 3 months on tour in North America and returns to Britain to release her new single ‘It’s Only Pain’ and a deluxe version of ‘Piece By Piece’ which will include a bonus DVD comprising an 80 minute film shot during Katie’s 2006 European tour plus promo films for her singles ‘Nine Million Bicycles’, ‘I Cried For You’ and Spider’s Web’. The original version of ‘Piece By Piece’, released in September 2005, has sold more than 1.2 million copies in Britain and more than 3 million copies worldwide.
Katie said of her first show at Wembley "I always used to say that I preferred playing in tiny little clubs and doing very intimate shows, - and although that still stands, it really is a huge thrill to do the bigger gigs as I recently discovered on touring Europe. Headlining for the first time at Wembley in front of 10,000 people is obviously a great buzz for any artist. I am so proud of every member of the band who have gone from strength to strength on the tour this year and we are really looking forward to playing at Wembley Arena."
